Olive’s Birth Story

I wanted to start telling Olive’s birth story over the next couple of days because it was so beautiful and perfect and if you’re on the fence about having a home birth I hope I can talk you into it!

First off I want to start by telling you that @treyingramFINISHED CLOSING IN THE PORCH in time for me to give birth in there and he did a fantastic job!! One of my midwife’s apprentices actually told me last week that once Trey finished that room I would probably go into labor. And she was right.🤯 On the 5th we made a trip to ikea to get some furniture we knew we wanted and with so much of their inventory being out of stock, we were thankfully able to get exactly what we wanted (a huge win) and brought it all home with the intent of putting it all together the next day.

Friday, the 6th, which was my due date, my sitter, my big girls and my mom and I spent hours cleaning up the new room, moving furniture and putting together new furniture. Trey got home from work and was pleasantly surprised with all that we had accomplished and we all breathed a sigh of relief that we had reached the finish line before I went into labor. 😆 People kept asking me when I was going to drink the midwife’s cocktail to induce labor and I kept saying I’m just not ready!! The room isn’t done!! 😂

That afternoon after being up and down all day and lifting stuff, something felt different. It felt like the baby had dropped down even more and I felt a whole lot more pressure, and then that night I started having regular contractions. I was able to go to sleep, which I’m so thankful for, even though I did feel the contractions some through the night. As soon as I woke up in the morning (the 7th) the contractions were in a steady pattern and came every 9 min. They ended up staying that way all day with some contractions being even closer than that; most of them were pretty painful but short and that felt doable to me. I was in touch with my midwife throughout all of it and her feeling was that it would ramp up that night and we’d have a baby. It actually ended up happening quicker than we both anticipated though... to be continued!!
